Fund People, Not Bombs
An open letter to Senator Ron Wyden from Oregon constituents
Oregon residents from across faith traditions and walks of life are signing this letter calling on Senator Wyden to vote yes on four Joint Resolutions of Disapproval to block the sale of US bombs and militarized bulldozers to the Israeli government. The US-Israel airstrikes on Iran and years of US-funded bombing in Gaza and Lebanon have caused devastating, irreversible harm to civilians. We are calling time on our tax dollars funding it. Read the letter below, add your name, and share it widely.

Dear Senator Wyden: FUND PEOPLE–NOT BOMBS
We are your constituents–writing to you from our Jewish, Christian, Muslim and many other faith traditions, and as people of good will. We are in grief and mourning over the devastating loss of life in Iran from US-Israel airstrikes, and in Lebanon and Gaza by US-funded Israeli bombs. We are calling for our tax dollars to stop funding war and genocide.
We urge you to vote YES on the following Joint Resolutions of Disapproval (JRDs) to block weapons and bulldozers to the Israeli government: S.J. Res. 138 on 12,000 1,000-pound bombs S.J.Res.136 on 5,000 250-pound small-diameter bombs, S.J.Res.137 on 10,000 500-pound bombs, and S.J. Res. 32 on D9R and D9T Caterpillar bulldozers and related equipment to Israel.
We were glad to see your condemnation of the Illegal U.S.-Israel war on Iran. This is a critical moment to act with moral and legal clarity to stop funding these atrocities, including ending U.S. complicity in Israel’s atrocities in Lebanon and Palestine.
The Israeli government continues to use U.S. weapons and equipment to commit atrocities against Palestinian, Iranian, and Lebanese civilians in violation of international and U.S. law. The majority of Americans — and the vast majority of all Democrats — oppose the illegal and immoral U.S.-Israeli war on Iran and Lebanon, and want the U.S. to stop sending any more weapons and equipment to the Israeli military as it inflicts genocide and ethnic cleansing on Palestinians.
Blocking the sales of these weapons to Israel is in line with constituent demands and are one key strategy – alongside voting in favor of War Powers Resolutions and voting against any additional war supplemental funds – in the broader push to end the illegal U.S.-Israel war on Iran and Lebanon and to hold the Israeli government accountable for its violations of international and U.S. law.
In summary, we, the signatories to this letter, are urging that you, Senator Wyden:
Vote YES on JRDs ( S.J. Res. 138, S.J.Res.136, S.J.Res.137, and S.J. Res. 32). It is painfully clear the Israeli government is using U.S. weapons and equipment to commit atrocities against Palestinian, Iranian, and Lebanese civilians in violation of international and U.S. law.
At this moment, we all are hoping that the U.S.-Iran ceasefire will be permanent. If there continues to be legislation for supplemental funding for war with Iran, we urge you to oppose that. We also urge you to support any War Powers Resolutions that may come forward so there is no repeat of a President unilaterally taking the United States into war.
WE URGE YOU TO VOTE YES AND SUPPORT THE JRDS TO BLOCK THE SALE OF WEAPONS AND MILITARIZED BULLDOZERS TO THE ISRAELI GOVERNMENT.
Sincerely,
Jewish Voice for Peace Portland
