Joel Beinin, the Donald J. McLachlan Professor of History and Professor of Middle East History, Emeritus, at Stanford University, will speak about Gaza’s history. He was Director of Middle East Studies at the American University in Cairo and served as president of the Middle East Studies Association of North America. Experiencing an early political awakening in Israel, he also studied Arabic in Cairo and was a political activist in the Arab community of Dearborn, Michigan, while he worked in Chrysler’s Warren Stamping Plant.
Mohammed Usrof, who was born in Gaza and grew up in the city of Khan Younis, will speak about the current humanitarian crisis. His family moved to Gaza as refugees from Jaffa in 1948. Now based in Portland, he's a passionate Palestinian rights activist, formerly with SUPER at PSU and SJP at Evergreen State College. Mohammed's journey reflects resilience and commitment, using education and activism to raise awareness for justice and equality in the ongoing Palestinian cause.
